Is Varicose Vein leg pain keeping you from dancing with the stars?

Dancing with Varicose Veins

Has leg pain kept you in your seat and off the dance floor these days? You may have eliminated dancing because of symptoms associated with vein disease. Vein disorders are not always visible to the naked eye. Varicose veins or venous disease can cause aching legs, painful or restless legs, as well as tired, heavy legs, swollen ankles or muscle cramps. Varicose veins can occur at any age and affect both men and women. Additional circumstances which increase your chances of developing varicose veins include; a family history of vein disease, chronic venous insufficiency, and aging.

There are many health benefits from dancing. Taking a dance class can be an excellent way to improve muscle control, and build balance, flexibility, and strength in your legs. A class in Zumba or tango will certainly help you break a sweat but also foster oxygenation throughout your whole body. Dancing is very beneficial for blood circulation in general. There are endless different forms of dance to choose from, but be mindful of staying low-impact. Avoid dance classes such as higher-intensity Zumba classes because they require strenuous moves and jumping that may put extra strain on your legs.

Calf Muscles and Varicose Veins

Strengthening your calf muscles may also help you avoid the discomfort of varicose veins. Dancing is a fun way to do calf exercises. Each time your calf muscle contracts, it helps move blood through your veins up to the heart. In the end, you will improve your vein health, and have the benefit of better defined calf muscles.

Studies have linked dancing with mind, body health and wellness. Get your legs moving and your mind off the day's tasks while also getting your heart pumping. Dancing creates more of a cardio workout than you may think. There is no way to completely prevent varicose veins but if you’d like to be out there dancing with the stars in 2017, exercise regularly, eat a diet high in fiber and low in salt, and wear compression stockings.

Varicose Veins Treatment

If your varicose veins symptoms are too severe to keep dancing, there are excellent treatment options to eliminate varicose veins and all vein abnormalities. No longer do patients need to endure painful surgical vein stripping. State-of-the-art vein treatments include Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy (EVLT), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), VenaSeal vein closure, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy, and sclerotherapy. With each of these procedures, there is minimal downtime and no sedation so you are able to return to your daily activities quickly.
