I have spider veins that hurt!

Question: I have spider veins on my legs and they really hurt to the touch. Can that be dangerous to my health?

Answer: In the large picture, pain associated with spider veins is not life threatening.  It would be worthwhile to have an evaluation by a qualified provider to see if these spider veins are an indication of a larger problem called venous insufficiency.  If one has venous insufficiency, the risk of developing a DVT increases by 4% per year.  Although relatively low likelihood that something adverse will occur, it is worth your time to get a complete picture of your vein health to understand the specific implications for you.
