Q&A: How long does varicose vein surgery take?

Question: How long does the actual varicose vein surgery itself take and how much time should I expect for the recovery?

Answer: This depends upon the type of intervention and whether sedation is used. Most procedures take about an hour from the time you check in to the time you leave. If sedation is used, this can extend the time to an hour and a half or two hours. Recovery is dependent upon the type of intervention. For thermal ablation, most people have some stiffness and soreness for 7-10 days. Rules for recovery vary by provider and should be discussed in the office.
